Teacher on leave for anti-Bush remarks

CNN.com - Teacher on leave for anti-Bush remarks

THIS IS BULLSHIT! I heard the taped conversation and he was not trying to brain-wash these kids into anything in fact his exact words were: "I am not asking you to agree or to disagree with me....I am asking you to think for yourselves..."

So what now, it's a friggin' crime to ask students to think for themselves????? WTF???? Is that why this kid got offended???? Why? Because he CAN'T form his own opinions and/or know when a teacher is trying to merely be provocative (fucking sheep - most people these days are nothing but sheep) - yep heaven help us if we're provocative or willing to protest our government's actions in public, on-line, you name it...I hope this guy sues the living crap out of this school and wins.

Here's an anti-Bush remark for y'all:

President Bush is an absolute idiot and I am ashamed that he is in charge of this country....God help this country....for as long as he is at the helm - we are doomed....

While I agree that the context of a Geography class, and the manner of a "lecture" rather than a discussion, were inappropriate, I certainly wouldn't categorize it as "Indoctrination". You want indoctrination, try listening to Hannity, or O'Reilly, or Fallwell, or Robertson, or Rove.

And the student didn't "challenge" the teacher, he simply recorded the class and passed on the recording to his father, and then to a right-wing talk radio show.

The teacher was gutsy. Wrong, but gutsy. The kid on the other hand...

Well, I'll keep my opinion of the kid to myself.

C2 - you know I totally disagree with you and you know that it's becoming more and more frightening that teachers need to worry about stating their opininos. IT WAS his observation unless my hearing's going and it isn't...HE WAS ENCOURAGING CRITICAL THINKING! He said as much....

And frankly so what about pontificating - haven't YOU ever had a teacher pontificate to you???? And if so were you so upset you turned them in??? Please - get over it - the kid was a coward and he does not deserve kudos for branding free speech offensive...

And thanks sweetie you know I luv you!

XOXOXO

Marlipern,

It does not matter what class it was OR wheter it was a lecture or him scraming from a soapbox - the teacher had every right to do what he did....

C2 - please!!!! - pontificaton is all that many teachers do and we're all a captive audience my dear as long as we are forced to be in a classroom - I am going to say it again the kid was a spineless coward and nothing but a right-wing patsy for all the other foaming-at-the-mouth, don't-you-dare-discuss-this subject, Nazi/Fascist idiots that seem to be manning this country....

The teacher was asking the kids to think *that's* waht *I* heard - I don't remember a lot of teachers doing that - and the ones that did I treasured. He was provoking them - there's no balance in that and there does not have to be - there's too much attempt at balance if you ask me - we are being too careful and it's bullshit.

If the kid was so offended he should have done what countless other teens do and opened his fucking mouth - not secretly recorded it to take to his parents. I am totally offended that you think these are children - they are budding adults, responsible for their actions - not a buch of kindergarteners - the kid was wrong...the teacher was right - and just wait until that kid goes to college and gets a professor that kicks him out of a *real* class for pulling such a stunt.... and frankly, the ONLY school he's probably going to get into will be a Christian college - go him...and he'll breed more just like him - yeah more idiots...can't wait till they take over the world....

Free speech has to remain free.
