Killing time...

I LOVE MUSIC. LOVE IT! Can't live without music in my life....

Sometimes I make up my own 'mix' CDs when I am bored or when I am looking for some different stuff to listen to in my car....lately I've been tyring to find *new* artists and even before that I was on the hunt for female bands to 'discover' and listen to - it can be difficult at times to find new female artists that I want to hear....I should not say 'hear' but there's not a lot of up & coming female groups and again I might be 'out of touch' so I will tell you if you have suggestions
please let me know - you can e-mail me anytime - I am always up for 'new' artists
and (obviously), my tastes are pretty varied....

Tonight I put together a CD called 'Girls' Nite Out':

1. 'These Boots' - Nancy Sinatra from the soundtrack of 'Full Metal Jacket'
2. 'Living Room' - Tegan and Sara from 'If it was you'
3. 'Least Complicated' - The Indigo Girls from 'Swamp Ophelia'
4. 'When you were mine' - Ani DiFranco - Live
5. 'Face to Face' - Siouxsie and the Banshees - from 'Batman' soundtrack
6. 'I Should've Known' - Aimee Mann - acoustic version
7. 'I'm Only Happy When it Rains' - Garbage (off their self-titled album)
8. 'Who Am I' - Miss Kitten - electroclash - 'Berlin is Burning'
9. 'Fall Behind Me' - The Donnas from 'Gold Medal'
10. 'Don't Cha' - Pussycat Dolls (w/Busta Rhymes) - CD single
11. 'Si Tu N'etais Pas La' - Amelie Soundtrack
12. 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' - Avril Lavigne (cover of Bob Dylan's)(OK sue me!)
13. 'When Dove's Cry' - Ani DiFranco - Live
14. 'Galileo' - Indigo Girls from 'Retrospective'
15. 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' - Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack - original
16. 'Like a Prayer' - Madonna from 'Like a Prayer'
17. 'By My Side' - Out of Eden & The Katinas - 'Godspell' soundtrack

When I moved her to Vermont last year, I was introduced to two bands that I really enjoy - Guster and Strangefolk. Nice, mellow sounds for the most part but Strangefolk can rock. Guster is catagorized as "emo-rock". I just read on another blog a recommendation for a female (i think) group called Hungry Lucy and I'm going to check them out. Good luck in your search!
Peace...............

Have you heard of Shannon McNally?! She's a bit of a country/folk/ballad type singer...she's been compared to Bonnie Rait...You can find and hear her online...She's from NY (you'd never guess it, only because most would not expect this sound from a New Yorker, I'm told), and she's young and beautiful....a very interesting character.

On four separate occasions, I was sleeping thru Jay Leno and was awakened from my sleep by music....her voice was one that awoke me...each of the voices (Jim Croce's son, A.J., was another, along with Ben Taylor, James' & Carley's son, and also Andreas Vollenweider (actually, I think I heard THIS guy when Johnny Carson was still hosting..sheesh!!))were unique and this registered even in my sleep.

Sorry.....we bloggers love to blog, huh?!

Anyway....check out Shannon's 'Now That I Know' from the 'Jukebox Sparrows' CD(the one I heard on Leno...she said she wrote this one about herself...I think you'll appreciate the words)....A.J. Croce is quite a pianist, and I happen to appreciate his voice as well. Ben Taylor sounds much like his father...(imagine the combination of BOTH his parents)...My favorite Vollenweider CD is 'Down To The Moon'.

Let me add one last CD I've recently purchased and am enjoying (though it's an old one)...Fiona Apple's 'Tidal'...I especially like 'Shadowboxer'. (Because I liked this one so much, I bought, without listening first (my bad), her latest CD...which I must say was horrible...so don't bother with it...sorry...but it's true!)

Ok...that's my 2 cents worth (ha..or more) for now....Enjoy!!!

(Recently, my daughter, Sarah, posted 3 songs in 'MySpace' that she wrote (and sings...AND plays guitar on..(she is just learning))..you may enjoy those...they are post-divorce (from the 'child's' perspective), break-up songs....'Just HAD to toss that in....If you'd like to join 'MySpace'...we have links to lots of musicians (that we know personally) there....She is presently living in Nashville...just a bit of info...sorry....I SHOULD have written an e-mail....sooo sorry!!)

I digress....and will stop now!!!! I LOVE MUSIC TOO!!! :))
