Supreme Court Takes Up Lethal Injection
(Yes I know this story is 'old' - I have not been blogging regularly and I
wanted to catch up where my last 'philosophical/societal bent' was...)
OK.
For the record, I am against the death penalty.
However, if we insist on carrying out such brutal, state-sponsored murder edicts, then I have to say I really don't give a flying fuck if it's a 'feel good' moment for the person who possibly tortured or brutally murdered their victim.
I am not suggesting that we as a society be cruel - but we are anyway - life is cruel. If you are going to go out and murder, rape, pillage and plunder then your punishment should potentially fit your crime....
I am disturbed by the fact that there is no one actually 'intimately' administering the lethal injection to the inmate - it is done remotely - well hell, why don't we just use a robot - that ought to completely absolve us of any complicity and let us sleep at night without worrying about being 'cruel' to a convicted murderer.
You'd think we'd be less squeamish....I mean WTF - why not have public hangings, televised executions - c'mon, society is ripe for this sort of thing by now don't you think?

I agree with you Collen, I think as a society we are ready for this now. It would make for great Reality TV :-)
Huggs!
Chris
If the writers' strike continues much longer there will be a lot of prime-time slots opening up for this...
