"Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359."
Country Squire,
Are you implying that you'd like to see politicians who won't pull a fast one on us? If so, good luck finding any. If there's one way to describe American politicans today, it's that they hardly say a thing which reflects genuine personal conviction. American politicians are no longer men and women of conviction, and they certainly won't be honest with us; they're salesmen. All of them are trying to sell us something. They want to get a foothold for their partisan interests by misleading the public into "buying" what they've got to offer -- which, in the case of Al Gore, would be himself.
But I'm not saying ingenuous politicans no longer exist: there's even a word for such politicians. They're called "terrorists".

Squire...
Look hypocrisy is rampant - I think we can agree on that - however, I am still proud of Al Gore for making a stand and for bringing attention to this important matter.
He's not perfect and he was not suggesting that he was - what do you want him to do, Squire live poorly to make you happy. I am sure he DOES things in his way and I am sure if you actually asked the man he'd admit he could do more - but the point is he spoke up - which is more than I can say for other politicians.
Ken,
You have ascribed opinions to me which I neither expressed nor implied. I also find it disturbing that your low opinion of salespeople would allow you to equate them with politicians.
C.,
“…what do you want him to do, Squire live poorly to make you happy?” Quite the contrary; I aspire to live as Vice President Gore does. I just don’t want him to tell me how to live my life, which, as an elitist, he feels compelled to do.
Squire
You are suggesting that Al Gore live more frugally - that's not a BAD idea - however you are not Al Gore. His cost of electricity are keeping with the house he has etc - again, do you want him to live in a shack? I think he is pointing out a much bigger problem - not just personal consumption....
He is NOT an elitist. He put his reputation on the line by making this movie and he won an Oscar - I don't see anyone in George Bush's camp doing anything similar and I find most of the people in that camp TO BE elitists indeed - not to mention war-mongers - now I am sure if you wrote to Al Gore and asked him about his electricity comsumption you might actually get a response - but us letting our president know we are sick of his shenanigans has done nothing to deter him from his course of action - he's not just an elitist - he's a tyrant.
C.,
Next time, please, carefully read what I wrote before you get so excited.
I have not made a single comment about how Al Gore “should” live. I only shared a news report about how Al Gore "does" live. I said that “I aspire to live as Vice President Gore does”; I did not say that I aspired to be Al Gore – heaven forbid.
But I am curious about Vice President Gore’s energy usage though. This particular house, which I understand is one of three that he owns, is five times larger than mine. Yet, if we base energy consumption on square footage, Vice President Gore’s usage is over three times what mine is.
As for whether Vice President Gore is or is not an elitist, I would suggest that a person in his position telling us how to conserve energy while doing as he pleases qualifies as such. And since when does winning an Oscar mean something in the arenas of science and politics?
You said “I don't see anyone in George Bush's camp doing anything”. May I offer this 2001 article from the Chicago Tribune by Rob Sullivan in rebuttal?
“The 4,000-square-foot house is a model of environmental rectitude.
Geothermal heat pumps located in a central closet circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet deep in the ground where the temperature is a constant 67 degrees; the water heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. Systems such as the one in this "eco-friendly" dwelling use about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and cooling systems utilize.
A 25,000-gallon underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof runs; wastewater from sinks, toilets and showers goes into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is used to irrigate the landscaping surrounding the four-bedroom home. Plants and flowers native to the high prairie area blend the structure into the surrounding ecosystem.
No, this is not the home of some eccentrically wealthy eco-freak trying to shame his fellow citizens into following the pristineness of his self-righteous example. And no, it is not the wilderness retreat of the Sierra Club or the Natural Resources Defense Council, a haven where tree-huggers plot political strategy.
This is President George W. Bush's "Texas White House" outside the small town of Crawford.”
And finally, I am continuously amazed at how President Bush ends up in conversations like this one. As I recall, the discussion was about Vice President Gore and his energy consumption. Then the conversation took a rather radical turn. You’re an intelligent person and you understand that words should not be used carelessly. But if you sincerely believe that a sitting president of the United States qualifies as a “tyrant” simply because he does not agree with your opinion on an issue then you need to go back to basics and learn how our government really works.
Squire,
I am not excited at all.
I am pointing out that your term elitist has no value nor basis in reality
If you look to see my post about 'The Truth' perhaps you can change your tune.
And in my estimation and that of over 50% of the nation's populace we told president Bush exactly what he should be doing and what WE THOUGHT about his and others in his camp job performance and he is blatantly ignoring the people he serves and doing what he damn well pleases. That to me makes him a spoiled tyrant - I don't need to look up anything my dear to tell you his actions are unacceptable and out of line.
That is why he needs to be taken out of office....
But then you should know how I feel - and I am going to bring him up because I feel the 2 issues are related. We have a man like Al Gore who by rights should have been the man in the oval office and because of the shenanigans of GW is not...
Now, while the energy issue may not be related to Mr. Bush cheating to win the election, it is certainly tied to the fact that if Al Gore were indeed in office (where he belonged to begin with), then this county would more than likely not be embroiled in a war for oil and to exact a vendetta, and would be working on more important issues, such as renewable energy sources and conservation.
And as the Good Ship Lollypop sets sail for that beautiful horizon, I stand on the shore of the Continent of Reason and wave a fond farewell.
Apparently, we have nothing left to discuss.
Squire...
Um...yeah OK
Typical, and sadly predictable too.
But thanks for visiting - enjoy the lovely parting gifts.
