Sunrise...Sunset
(This was the title of a beautiful song from the musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and yes I am a dork in that way - that I love old musicals...)
Last night was my last night teaching at the college until February. On my drive out to the college, I was enjoying the gorgeous sunset. In the song ‘Rhiannon’ by Stevie Nicks – she talks about how Rhiannon was ‘taken by the sky’ – I too feel that way – not so much because of the paganism/druidic aspect – but because I love the sky – the forms, the colours, the feelings I get when I gaze upon all that endless beauty.
Last night’s sunset was no exception – and, other than the fact that I did not get to share it with Erin (for that is one of my favourite things to do) – the scene was flawless. The colours perfect, a full moon, pale yellow, rising in the background; Ethereally breath-taking, the pinks, and oranges, and yellows and finally the pale blues, darker blues and purples – it’s enough to make me want to take up flying/piloting a plane.
Then this morning as I waited for the elevator on the 11th floor of the building I work in – the sunrise was equally splendid. Beautiful shades of purple and rose coming up from the horizon, all back lit by the first peaks of morning sun; The sky above still hushed and dark blue beginning to pale where the colours meet the horizon – it’s a moment for meditation. A moment where I say a silent prayer thanking God for all the beauty that surrounds me and for all the blessings I have in my life.
