Joy and Devastation

To all those who have suffered from the damages caused by Storm Sandy - my heartfelt prayers go out to you and yours in your time of need.

I know full well the devastation that these types of storms can cause from my years of living in Houston, but we have never seen this type of damage in over 100 years.  I hope that your lives will return to normal soon.

As I watched the storm unfold from the safety of my bed, with the wind howling outside my own house, I marveled at the images.  These photos in particular came from the NY Times.  The first one is of a person (a visitor in a bathrobe) -  doing a cartwheel in the rain in an 'empty' Times Square (and if you have ever been to Times Square - you know how odd that statement is).:

The second is a chilling, apocalyptic photo from a burned out Queens neighborhood:

While this photo exhibits the devastation caused by this brutal storm, I think it also speaks to hope and how we sometimes need to put our trust in something outside of ourselves during times of crisis.

May God bless you and keep you all safe.
