Time travelin'

It started when my husband received a test from me time-stamped 10:30AM - except that I sent it at 7:00AM...a fluke...perhaps....but this weekend felt like going back in time to me.

My husband and I celebrate anniversaries - not just our wedding, but our first date - we measure time spent together in milestones achieved but we don't let go of what's happened in our past that has led us to the future.

For our first date celebration, we decided to have a 'get-away' weekend.  This was much needed by me since the loss of my dear friend and other stressors that have me down.  We decided to go to the Chautauqua region of New York State.  We were going there to camp and to attend a music festival.

We drove out Friday late afternoon together to start our 'adventure'.  I think we both refer to these times as 'adventures' because often we have no schedule, no set agenda and we simply explore together.  We found our campsite:  Camp Prendergast, located in Mayville.  Our hosts were Rich and Pat a wonderful couple who made us feel right at home.  Since we were not doing much cooking over a fire this weekend, we had neglected to bring 'fire-starting' equipment.  We headed into town to find a store and on the way back, we stopped by Webb's candy-shop, which carries goat-cheese fudge (YUMMY!).  My husband happened to inquire about a nearby French restaurant named La Fleur, and the counter girl gave us directions.  We drove around for a bit, passed it up and finally realized that the name of the place was not on the signage off the road.  However, once we arrived, I was enchanted.  They asked us about reservations and I was about to be disappointed but the wonderful surprise was that we ended up being able to be seated on the beautiful wrap-around porch.  I had been wanting to go to this restaurant for about 2 years now and I was about to share a fantastique meal with my beau.  And fantastique it was!  The scallops were superb, the wine amazing, the bleu cheese and pear tart to die for.  We finished off the meal by sharing a selection of three cheeses, complimentary dark chocolat truffles and I was given a long-stemmed rose.  I was in heaven.  We made our plans for our next visit to have a luncheon there together.  This area of New York is rapidly becoming one of my favourite places to spend with my husband.

On Saturday we headed to Sherman, NY.  The Great Blue Heron Music Festival is something that I would have done probably 20 years ago, at it's inception.  More likely in my 20's than my 30's, but I digress.  The festival is 3 days of camping, music, partying and counter culture set against the backdrop of a Woodstock-like location in upstate New York.  People were friendly (read: stoned or drunk - perhaps not), and ready to relax and let the music, beer, wine, booze and herb of choice flow through them and carry them to their 'happy place'.  I felt like I had gone backwards in time sans the mood-altering substances (which I would have shared if someone offered)....the day was filled with smiles, people saying 'Happy Heron' to you, tied-dyed shirts, barefoot dancing, drum circles, festival food and well-behaved children.  The best part of this time was having my husband by my side.  I enjoyed watching him enjoy this and I hope we get to return in years to come.

Saturday evening found us back at our campsite. The host and hostess of the camp were incredibly attentive and kind  - they even chased off idiots who were shooting off M-1000s (which nearly gave me heart failure). We spent time walking around the camp earlier that day and met some friendly folks who shared their coffee and breakfast breads with us - Captn' Dave and his wife and extended family will stay in my memory and hopefully we will see them all again the next time we camp.  I was very taken with the way people greeted us and my husband and I talked about the possibility of making a camp-ground our summer home destination. Spending time camping, sitting by a fire, drinking wine, and using our wonderful new hammock, refreshed my spirit and helped me feel a lot better.  Most of all, I was blessed to have some much needed reconnection time with Erin, reminding me of how lucky I am to be married to such a wonderful man.

So here's to the past, the present, and the future.  May time mellow our memories and create a basis for making happy(/ier) new ones to share.

Happy Belated Samhain

Happy belated Halloween everyone....here's hoping you had more treats than tricks (unless of course you are into that sort of thing.)

I got to of course participate in the holiday with Erin this year. The kids went off with their friends and Erin and I passed out candy. I got to wear the costume he made for me this past summer - it is beautiful...

It was very windy and getting kind of chilly towards the end of the evening...I was still sitting outside. Erin had very kindly brought out a blanket to snuggle with and some food and wine. Erin had gone back into the house to answer the phone. Suddenly, a kid wearing a skeleton costume came running up the walk.

I handed him candy and he handed me a rock saying: 'Please give this to the next kid you see - he will be really happy' A bit confused I agreed. Sure enough a young boy in a nondescript costume came up next, a forlorn look on his face. he said: 'My cousin got a rock tonight and all I keep getting is candy'. Smiling I held up the rock and said: 'Here you go honey' - I also gave him a piece of candy. He lit up like a christmas tree and ran down the driveway calling 'I got a rock! I FINALLY got a rock!' - I was laughing so hard I was crying. I heard his mom tell him after they left the next house that she was pretty sure he'd only get one rock a night.

There must have been someone on the street passing out rocks a la 'It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!'. What a riot!

So that's the update for the nonce kids. I hope all is well in your universe.

God/dess bless.

Gifts of Birthdays Past

This weekend was very nice.

Friday night, Erin and I took the kids to the Palace Theatre downtown to see ‘The Jerk’ – the movie was probably not the most appropriate for young children but it was funny. I am not sure how much the kids enjoyed the movie itself, however they did enjoy the cartoons and the atmosphere of being in a beautiful theatre and watching something on the ‘big screen’.

Saturday was the Bela Fleck concert at Cain Park in Cleveland Heights. This is an outdoor venue and we had seats in the amphitheatre. It is a very intimate setting. This concert was a present to Erin for his b-day back in May and Saturdays show was exactly 3 months to the day. I hope he enjoyed the concert. Bela and his group (The Flecktones) were in fine form.

Sunday was my ‘gift redemption’ I took the gift card for the nearby Sap and went to have my hair done and a manicure. I was pampered and the atmosphere was very relaxing. While I was busy at the spa, Erin replaced the downstairs ½ bathroom floor. He worked on this all day. I got back to his place, went grocery shopping, cooked dinner, and he took a shower (at one point while he was outside and I was reading my book and drinking a glass of wine, I just welled up with tears looking at him and realizing just how much I love this man). We sat down to dinner (minus Erin’s daughter), and tried to get his son to talk a little about religion (bad idea apparently). A little later in the evening we all went on our bikes to go get some ice cream.

As time goes, on I am reminded of how special this relationship is – and just how lucky I am to have Erin and the children in my life.

Today I came into work to a gift from my co-worker – she actually went out and bought me a garter to wear for my wedding day. This was simply too kind of her – she and I have had our difficulties, but from time to time she surprises me with her actions. I thanked her for her kindness. So now I have something new and blue to wear on my wedding day (LOL – even tho I had not planned on wearing a garter).

Life is forever unfolding and renewing itself before me – as I ponder and muse over all that has been happening and all that is yet to come – the greatest gift of all is that of my life, and the new sense of hope that has carved out a permanent place in my heart.

*GIRLY GIGGLES*

So on the way up from getting coffee, I was in the elevator with Neli and there was this guy that we actually agreed was 'hot' - Neli and i usually disagree when it comes to a guy's attractiveness...

Anyhow this guy was getting off the elevator at the 8th floor (which is where gynecology is housed) and Neli said (after he left) - Neli sort of got confused with the phrasing of 'So...is it me or is that a speculum in your paocket?'

Laughingly, I told her no the 'proper' way to say that was: 'So are you happy to see me or is that a speculum in your pocket?'

We were both laughing so hard on our way back we had tears in our eyes....

It's good to be back at work....

OK - now....this is a crossword puzzle my love created for me to work on while I am away in PA this weekend with my sister - or at least I think he meant for me to work on it while I am gone (I am working on it now BTW - cause I am one of those people who love solving crossword puzzles)

Sure - anyone can 'generate' a crossword puzzle - but how many of you have had your lovers, fiances husbands, boyfriends actually do anything like this?

Where did I find this guy? And how lucky am I?

(And for those of you out there who think that it's way too easy to impress me by doing something like this - answer the question I just raised above - have YOU ever done anything like this for your loved one? I know I haven't. )

He's amazing and I get to be with him for the rest of my life....repeating: 'How lucky *AM* I? Answer: Extremely lucky.

*happy sigh*

I love you, Erin - with all my heart.

Stolen

(From the dear Squire - who got it from one of his friends...)

I want to live my next life backwards:

You start out dead and get that out of the way.
Then you wake up in an old age home feeling better every day.
Then you get kicked out for being too healthy.
Enjoy your retirement and collect your pension.
Then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day.
You work 40 years until you're too young to work.
You get ready for High School: drink alcohol, party, and you're generally promiscuous.
Then you go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, and you have no responsibilities.
Then you become a baby, and then...You spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, in spa-like conditions - central heating, room service on tap, and then...

You finish off as an orgasm.
